The Carpet and Rug Institute has an excellent resource guide for carpet maintenance and spot cleaning. Here you can find a spotting guide for over 270 types of spots and stains. Most require a detergent solution made with dishwashing liquid, a white vinegar solution, or an ammonia solution, or a combination of these solutions in a certain order. See link for this document at the bottom of the page.
Green Eagle Services is proud to be a certified service provider under the Carpet and Rug Institute's Seal of Approval program. Before you view this document we suggest a few precautions.
First: In a few instances the spot or stain requires the use of a Dry Cleaning Fluid or Solvent or Nail Polish Remover. These products should be used with great care. They can be dangerous to use. They also have the potential to cause irreversible harm to your carpet. If you must do it yourself, follow the instructions for use carefully.
Second: In a few other cases the procedure calls for the use of a carpet spotter. Many over the counter spotters contain ingredients that can bleach out color or cause color change in carpet. We suggest that you do not use a spotter if the ingredients are not listed on the bottle. Many oxygen cleaning agents or peroxide based spotters must be rinsed thoroughly to avoid color change in some carpets, especially on beige carpet.

"Citrus APS" spotter and air freshener
Citrus APS is a 100% active ready-to-use all-purpose spotter that cleans spots and stains while freshening the air. It’s a biodegradable product made from pure natural orange oils and wetting agents which cut through and remove such soils as adhesives, crayon, shoe polish, tar, grease, oil, polish, wax, fat, chewing gum, ink, cosmetics, and fresh paint while leaving a pleasant fragrance.
Citrus APS contains no fillers such as water or mineral spirits to cheapen the product and make it less effective, a common practice. It also contains no chlorinated solvents.
"Perky Spotter" no rinsing
Perky is the safest, yet most effective, spotter we use. Perky Spotter is unique and recognized by professionals as the finest “all purpose” spotter on the market today. The bottle comes with a built-in brush and a built-in lifting spatula.
Simply apply Perky to the spot, agitate gently with the built-in brush, and lift the lather onto a towel using the spatula on the bottle. No rinsing is required. What could be simpler?
On October 6th, 2005 Groom Industries, Inc. earned the Seal of Approval for Perky Spotter all purpose spot remover from the Carpet and Rug Institute.
Perky Spotter is often the answer when solvent-type spot removers fail. Used as directed, the non-enzyme solvent-free digester in this spotter breaks down oil-based stains and spots for removal by blotting.
Perky Spotter is especially effective on protein stains such as blood and food spills and often works very well on pet problems. Perky is environmentally safe, non-toxic and removes stains from: Carpeting, Upholstery, Vinyl and Clothing. Perky Spotter is an odorless, water-based product that is safe to use around children and pets.
Effectively Removes: Hot & Cold Drinks, Animal Accidents, Lipstick, Copy Toner, Cosmetics, Food Spills, Fruit Juice, Graphite, Milk, Oil, Shoe Polish, Tea, Wine, Tar, Beer, Blood, Dirt & Mud, Grease, Ink, and many more...
